Knowing you was the Fourth of July
A little red, white and blue lightning in the sky
I watched but never listened
Hope they’d grant a wish and
You might be mine…
Till all left is the moon
And my ears crack with the boom
Of destiny come to slap me in my mind,
Distance finally calculated
Pain that’s unanticipated
Now I know that there’s a steady reason why…
Again I stare out a window past my bedtime
Catching stolen glances at a skyline
CPR on memories in the night,
I wish a tear could bottle up your smiles as a sparkler in my hand
For when I need a little light.
But I hope you’re happy and free.
